Welcome to C&A Hotel Apartments in Polis, Cyprus

My Cyprus Holiday 2004 by Helen Ashton

When you are in a wheelchair, holidays are often something you look forward to with nervous trepidation. The worry is if the place you are staying in is accessible for you. Most holidays that are considered accessible are reviewed by the able bodied and, let's face it, only someone with first hand experience of disability can be the judge.

That is why I was thrilled that when Rick typed 'disabled holidays' into an Internet search engine it came up C&A apartments in Cyprus.

A wheelchair user had not only designed the apartments, but they had been designed by and were run by someone with Friedreich's ataxia, Chris Neophytou. If anyone could tell me a place was accessible, it had to be someone else with Friedreich's ataxia.

When I looked over his website and read the comments in his guest book, I couldn't help but be impressed. We booked our holiday and for once did not have a feeling of nervous trepidation just a happy anticipation. The holiday more than lived up to our' expectations. The actual apartments were wonderfully accessible and as good as they look on the website. The town where they are situated Polis is about 40 minutes North of Paphos.

It is a small town and not rowdy like some Mediterranean resorts can be but lively enough. The main square has a great choice of shops, restaurants and bars and is very friendly and as pretty as any Italian or Spanish piazza. Chris has made sure a number of businesses there have put in ramps and has even campaigned to get an accessible toilet in the square. Chris makes sure his guests are never short of something to do and you will find that being in a wheelchair is no excuse for not being active. You can go parasailing from your chair (if you want to) or swimming in the sea, Chris arranges a boat trip and the boat has a hoist into the sea. You can go horse riding or you can just relax in the sun. The beaches are fabulous and there is even a ramp down to the sea. Chris's family, especially his mum Eva, certainly lives up to the reputation the guest book has given to them. They make the place feel like home and really go out of their way to make you feel welcome. We had a wonderful holiday out in Cyprus the weather was beautiful and the food was superb. In fact we had such a good time we are going back in a few weeks and can't wait. If you are interested, the website is
